Community Support Centres

Clare County Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from community organisations who have suitable premises to act as designated Community Support Centres (CSCs). These centres would provide a vital, community-based response during severe weather events or other local emergencies.

Closing date for Expressions of Interest is 12p.m. Friday 19th December 2025

Groups expressing interest should be prepared to:

  • Make your premises available as a safe gathering point during an emergency
  • Open the premises/centre when requested by Clare County Council, or self-activate as required locally
  • Provide basic support such as tea/coffee, phone charging, Wi-Fi, information and a friendly welcome
  • Have a team of volunteers able to staff the centre for agreed hours
  • Stay in touch with Clare County Council who will support you through a designated liaison person

What becoming a CSC does NOT mean:

  • That you would be expected to open 24/7
  • That you take on specialist or medical roles, this is basic community support only

Supports

  • Designated CSCs will be eligible for an annual grant to support readiness and small-scale improvements, including funding toward the purchase of generators.  
  • Clare County Council will fund and arrange for the installation of the Change Over Switch to facilitate independent power supply/generators and or electrical upgrades.   
  • Clare County Council will deploy generators during severe weather/emergency event to the Community Support Centres where the greatest need is.
